NCS identifies issues within the nerve, while an EMG assesses whether the muscle responds appropriately to the signals from the nerve.

What is Electromyography (EMG)?

Electromyography (EMG) is a test that helps doctors understand how muscles work. It uses small sensors called electrodes to listen to the electrical signals that muscles make when they are at rest and when they move.  
 
EMGs help doctors diagnose neuromuscular disease, neurological disorders, muscle disease, and nerve abnormalities associated with pain or numbness.    

What is Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)?

A nerve conduction study (NCS) evaluates the speed and efficiency of electrical signals as they travel along your nerves. This study helps diagnose conditions affecting nerves, such as peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more. An accurate diagnosis is the first step in a patient’s treatment plan.
