ONS Supports KIC IT Triathlon

ANNUAL RACE SUPPORTS VITAL SERVICES TO LOCAL CHILDREN OF ALL AGES. 

ONS is proud to support the important services provided by Kids in Crisis to children in need of shelter, as a sponsor of the Navigators Stamford KIC IT Races. The athletic challenge, which draws 600 adult and 200 youth competitors, will take place on Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16. The races begin and finish at Stamford’s Cumming Beach.

Kids in Crisis is  non-profit organization that was founded in 1978. It provides free, round-the-clock shelter and crisis management for Fairfield County children ages newborn to teens and their families dealing with any type of trauma. Some examples could include abuse, neglect, family conflict and more. While staying at the facility, children receive ongoing individual and group therapy, on-site medical care and educational support.

Funding to Kids in Crisis has been significantly reduced in recent years. In November, 2015, the State Department of Children and Families (DCF) rescinded their $750,000 annual contract to provide shelter to homeless teens in need of refuge. The cut came on top of a $900,000 plus loss in state aid three years earlier for the Kids in Crisis Nursery Program.

RACE DETAILS 

Saturday’s Kids Triathlon challenges children ages 6 – 13 to swim, bike and ride distances adjusted to the abilities of their age group. The various waves begin at 8:00 am, following the National Anthem and a pre-race briefing.

Sunday’s races provides race opportunities for adults of all abilities, including the Olympic race, which starts with the 1.5K (0.9 mile) swim, followed by the 40K (24.8 mile) bike course and finishes with a 10K (6.2 mile) run. The Sprint Triathlon is a shorter race that can be taken on by adults, from beginners to seasoned triathletes. The race begins with an 0.8K (0.5 mile) swim, followed by a 22K (13.9 mile) bike ride and winds up after a 5.1K (3.2 mile) run.

As an alternative to the multi- sport challenge of the Triathlons, walkers and runners of all abilities can hit the road for the KIC IT 5K that starts at 10 am.

All competitors will be cheered as they cross the finish line and treated to food, beverages and music prior to the awards ceremonies. Spectators and athletes are invited to visit the ONS tent for treats and information about our expert treatments for musculoskeletal injuries and conditions.
